Zac's Surprise Email!! March 20, 1020

Hey family!!

Well I know I told you I wouldn't email you again until Wednesday but things kinda changed for me Tuesday.  President Talbot called me and released me from being a zone lord.  So Tyson is indeed the "real zone lord" haha!  But he has now called me to be his new assistant.  I was pretty surprised to get called but I'm excited to serve as his assistant.  I got the call Tuesday and then the current AP's (Elder Phillips and Elder Blanchard) picked me up Wednesday and drove me down to Des Moines.  I have always wanted to serve in Des Moines so I guess this is one way to do it.  The living situation is top notch as well.  We live in a three story condo with a washer, dryer and dish washer.  Make sure you let Tyson know about that as he hand washes his clothes and bathes in poopy Mexico rivers.  Haha!

So the new AP is a pretty big mystery in the IDMM.  For some reason nobody is suppose to know who got called as the new assistant until the day before transfers which would be this coming Wednesday.  Until then I am in a three some with the current AP's and I have to lay low.  I feel like a fugitive having to duck and hide everytime we see some Elders.  The missionaries in Des Moines go above and beyond to learn who the new assistant is.  Last night we had the Spanish zone leaders break into our place just to see who got called.  I had to dive out the back door to narrowly escape being discovered.

The life of an AP is a lot different then that of a normal missionary, especially for this week.  Thursday we had our transfer meeting where we decide where all of the missionaries in the mission are going to be serving for the next transfer.  I never realized how much prayer and inspiration goes into that.  I was also shocked at how much of a role we get to play in that.  We now have everyone's companions and areas all squared away.  What we now work on is deciding how everyone is going to get to their new areas.  Sounds easy, right?  Wrong.  We have to coordinate where everyone needs to be and make sure no one is alone and then handle just a bunch of other random things.  It's moving along nicely though.

Overall the AP gig is treating me well.  I am still adjusting to it but it seems like fun.  President interviewed me and gave me a blessing when I first got to Des Moines.  He told me that now my investigators are the missionaries out here.  I need to know them personally and help each and everyone of them to be the best missionary they can be.  It's a big responsibility but I'm excited for it.  So now that I'm in Des Moines you can just send my stuff to the mission office... 8515 Douglas Ave. #19  Des Moines, IA 50322.  We have a mailbox for the apartment but we rarely check it because it is so much easier to just pick it up at the office since we are in there all of the time.  Another change is that our P day is on Saturday (when we actually get one) so I'll email on Saturdays or possibly Sundays if our Saturday gets too crazy.

Elder Phillips goes home this coming Friday so it will then be just me and Elder Blanchard.  They are both cool kids though.  Both are from Idaho.  Elder Phillips is from Pocatello and Elder Blanchard is from Rigby.  President said that unless something changes I'll be killing off Elder Blanchard who goes home in June and then I'll die here in the office.  With that he said that I'll be the one who has to train President Jergensen.  It also means that I'll be here when they merge our mission with the Illinois one.  There is going to be a ton of change when President Jergensen gets out here and I'll be a part of it all which will be fun as well as extremely stressful.  No worries :)

I love you guys and hope to hear from you Saturday!

Love

Elder Jergensen
