Tyson's Letter: June 7, 2010

Mi familia!
This week was an adventure that definitely had its ups and downs. On Friday, we went on divisions so I went to Playa with Elder Gutierrez. He is way sweet. While I was there, he had to conduct a baptismal interview in Cozumel, so I got to see the ocean and take a ferry to Cozumel! So sweet! The ocean is so pretty and crystal clear! It was way weird to be in Cozumel and recognize some of the things we saw before and tons of freaking gringos. It is so funny to see the tourists now that I am on the other side of the life. Silly gringos.

Lately, tons of people have been asking to see pics of my family, so I always show them the ones in my wallet and I put pics on my scripture case. Everyone is so amazed at how awesome our family is. They just stare at greasy dean and her blonde hair and blue eyes. Elder Gutierrez somehow caught a glimpse of lexy lue and begged me to tell her about him. Ha he is the bomb. He says that he is bien feo pero tiene un corazon gigante so give him a chance! ha.

Apparently, there is some confusion, so I will try to clear it up. Siesta is a fantasy. My daily schedule is the usual 6:30 wake up and work out. By 8, we are dressed and ready, so we have personal study for an hour, companion study for an hour, and then language study for an hour. At 11:00 we leave the house. We have from 2-3 to eat lunch/dinner with a member, but other than that we dont stop until 9:00 at night. We do what we can to put a teaching appointment every hour, but when they fall it is a lot of walking, contacting, and knocking doors. Like Mark said, you dont actually "knock" doors, you wait at the sidewalk and yell "buenas dias", "tardes" or "noches." Lately, we have been trying to get the members more involved and excited, so we try to plan hoches de hogar (FHE) that they can invite their nonmember friends. We taught one this last week. We made this sweet lesson with Alma chapter 24 about the anti nefi lehis and their "weapons of rebellion" so we made little paper swords and had the people write on them a sin or something they do that hurts someone else (like impatience, anger, etc) and then at the end of reading different parts, we had them bury their swords in a cardboard box we brought full of wood chips. I thought it was pretty sweet, but all it took to ruin it was a group of about 7 kids. I swear kids are a tool of the devil. As soon as they got a hold of the swords it was game over. One things about here is that the parents are so kind and loving that they just dont discipline their kids. The kids were screaming and running everywhere fighting with the swords and it was just chaos. We are going to have to take that one back to the drawing board. This week was also very rough as far as the whole lunch thing goes. The relief society president changed around the eating schedule but didnt think to tell the people that she assigned. As a result, every day we surprised the families with the news that we were going to eat with them, and in the chaos we get jacked on the meals. There are a ton of these chicken restaraunt things here that all they sell is chicken. So they cook pretty much the whole chicken, and you just tell them if you want a half or quarter and they take their huge night and chop the chicken, bones and all, and give you your part with a little rice on the side. It is fast, easy, and cheap, so this is what the members choose to feed us... every single day. I really liked it the first 15 times, but not any more.

Well I found a place that will put my pics onto a CD or DVD depending on how much memory I need and he will do it for pretty cheap, so next Monday I will have that done. If I put them on a DVD can you still like take the off and edit them or whatever?

The highlight of the week is that Roberto will be getting the priesthood next week! He is such a stud! I cant wait and neither can he!

This morning we helped a lady cut down pretty much her whole tree with a machete. That is the most multifunctional tool I have ever seen. You walk down the street and their is someone weeding with his machete, the next guy is trimming his bushes with his machete, the next is preparing fish or chicken for dinner with his machete. It was pretty fun this morning, but I cut my finger a good one. Then as reward for our efforts, the people gave us each a coconut! We got the juice and drank it and then ate the inside. It was pretty dang good.

Well we are heading off to Playa a little early so we can do some shopping in Walmart. I love you all. Oh and happy fathers day dad! You are the best ever. I love reading all your letters and stake updates. You are such an example to me and I want to be just like you! I am trying so hard to pattern my life after you so I can be as successful as you some day. You are everything I want to be! I dont have much to give you, but I will send those pics soon, I love you so much, and here are some delicious recipes to try!

Horchata:
