Zac's Letter: April 11, 2010

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADDIE!!

I hope Maddie's b day was fun!  I can't believe she is already 14.  Craziness!  Did you do anything fun for your birthday dean bean?  Get any cool presents?

It sounds like the rest of you are doing well too, except for Mom getting the MRI.  I'm really glad nothing was wrong there.  First Dad goes and blows out his knee and now Mom has brain problems.  The family is just falling apart. Haha.  It's also crazy to hear that Trevor is close to marriage, never thought that day would come.  You'll have to send some pics of him and this Michaela.

This past week we have just been all over the place which is part of the reason why I couldn't email you guys until today.  We did three zone conferences this past week.  Tuesday we did one in Cedar Rapids, Thursday was Iowa City and then Friday we had Ames.  It was so fun being able to tour the mission and meet all the missionaries.  The only lame part is that we have to interview every companionship on their planners and area books.  So that gets kinda old.  The best part about doing all these zone conferences is that we got to stay in hotels Tuesday and Wednesday night.  That sounds dumb but it was such a hoot.  Elder Blanchard and I had our own hotel room with two queen size beds.  It was a dream!

After all the zone conferences we drove up to Sioux City to do exchanges with the ZL's up there (Elder Blackett and Elder Trotter).  So it was a blast to be able to be around Elder Blackett again.  I was also pretty stoked to do some real missionary work again.  It gets old having to give the training over and over again and not being able to apply it.  We get to talk to people here and there but we hadn't had a full proselyting day for a while.

So all day Saturday we were working Sioux City.  I went with Elder Trotter and we had a stacked day.  First they had me cut their investigator's hair.  The kid is 18 years old and is getting baptized this coming Saturday.  Unfortunetly he is a grease ball.  He hadn't cut his hair since December and I'm pretty sure that was the last time he had washed it as well.  It was so gross but I had to just grin and bear it.  It made me so thankful that you guys never let me grow my hair out!

After the hair cut we taught him all the big commandments (Word of Wisdom, Law of Chastity, Tithing).  Although he is greasy he has a strong testimony and commited to give up a lot of stuff in order to live those commandments.  We had two more lessons later on in the day where we taught the gospel of Jesus Christ (lesson 3).  I thought after going so long without teaching it would be hard for me to get back into it but it came back pretty easy.

We spent Saturday night there and went to church with them this morning.  We then drove back after eating lunch with them and got in tonight with just enough time for me to email you guys and then collect numbers.  So to answer Alexis' question, we are in the Des Moines 2nd ward which is the same as President and Sister Talbot but they are almost never there.  They go to wards all over the mission.  We mostly stick to the Des Moines 2nd unless we are on exchanges like today.

So that's the highlights for me.  I feel like I'm finally getting settled into this AP thing.  Another perk to it all that I discovered today is that I get a little pay raise on my missionary support card.  So that was a pleasant surprise.  I'm curious though, what was it like for dad being an AP in Taiwan?  Did you do zone conferences, transfers, exchanges and all that?  Since almost all of the General Conference talks were about parenting I figured I better get some more info out of you guys.  I love you all and am especially grateful for the amazing parents I was blessed with!

Love

Elder Jergensen
