Hey Family!
Thanks for the emails and letters this past week. I finally did get all those letters and easter package on transfer day. It was fun to be able to have a fat stack of letters to read through. So is Tyson in Mexico yet? I got his letter but it seemed like it was pretty old. I'm really excited to hear about his mission experiences as he begins his journey. Wednesday we got to pick up the new missionaries here and it was so cool! That was probably the best day I've had as an AP thus far. We had some studs come out. It's so funny with the new missionaries because they think that because you are the big AP you are just the man and know everything. I felt like that when I first came out and I bet Tyson will experience the same thing when the assistants pick him up from the airport down there. We got to spend almost all day with the new missionaries which was so cool. We roll played with them and everything. They are all just so cute and innocent when they first come out.
Then the next morning we take the returning missionaries to the airport to drop them off. It's a much different feel then when we go to pick up the greenies, as you can imagine. Both times going to the airport felt so wierd! Seeing missionaries go home definitely gave me a sense of urgency for my own mission.
So Dad wanted to know if Elder Blanchard knew a Marlow Blanchard from St. A, do I have news for you! Marlow Blanchard is Elder Blanchard's dad! Crazy, eh? I totally remember when we got stuck in that ditch in St. A and Elder Blancard knew the house as well. He now lives in Rigby, Idaho. Have we ever stopped by their house in Rigby? It is definitely a small world.
Elder Blanchard and I are having a blast serving together. Being an assistant is really stressful so it's nice to have someone with you to vent with. This past week was especially crazy with transfers. I hopped on the transfer van at 6 am in Des Moines and didn't get back to Des Moines until 9:30 pm. We have two transfer vans so every transfer we have one go west and one go east and they both make giant loops around the mission with one assistant on each van. It's really fun to be able to see the mission and meet a bunch of the missionaries. The only hard part is making sure no one forgets stuff and making sure that we are making it to the transfer points on time. Everyone made it to their new area though so at least we didn't screw that up too bad.
Now that transfers are out of the way the focus is preparing the training for zone conferences and zone leader council. We had lunch and a meeting with President Talbot yesterday to discuss what we want to do for this transfer. He wants us to train on PMG ch. 11. That chapter is all about helping investigators make and keep commitments. In the mission we are seeing a lot of investigators have baptismal dates but then a ton of them are falling through. So the training should help with that.
It's really cool being able to work with the Talbot's and the office couples on such a personal level. The office couples are the Church's and the Bee's. They are hilarious. It feels like I'm in the show "The Office". Elder Church would definitely be the Dwight. He was the one driving the transfer van I was on so I just laughed all day. They have so many funny things they do. My favorite is that the entire office staff refers to President Talbot as "The President". Everytime they talk about him it's "The President said..." or "I need to call The President" It's so funny!
So things are going good here. I must say I feel a little inadequite to be an assistant though. A lot of the zone leaders are older then me and I'm suppose to train them. That is pretty intimidating. So if dad or any of you have any advice from your vast expanses of wisdom, I'd be glad to hear it. Other then that I'll just keep on keepin' on. I love you guys!!
Love
Elder Jergensen
